The Latest: Inside Coach Tim Thackrey's Mind
with my latest tools to get you Back in the Game!

Training & getting in shape…feeling ‘healthy’ used to be so simple.
As we get older, it feels like a maze.
I saw a shirt at the gym, it read "I don't know how to act my age...I've never been this old before"
You tried just “working out and eating clean” - while that’s a fine entry point, it is directionless.
And it loses steam over time.
Not because it's not a bad starting point, but because you're actually managing three goals at once:
Performance: Can you still move the way you want, hit hard, show up with power on demand?
Aesthetics: Do you look the way you want to look in and out of a T-shirt?
Longevity: Are you actually healthy under the hood? Joints, organs, hormones, nervous system, stress load.
Here’s the problem: most people only focus on one of these, and accidentally sabotage the other two. Then when they realize the benefits of the other area…they lose the progress they made with their initial focus.
Let me walk you through it.
You slash calories. Add cardio. Cut carbs. Drop water. Been there?
Yeah, the scale moves.
But here’s what also happens:
You raise stress hormones trying to “burn it off,” which wrecks sleep and recovery.
You lose lean muscle, which is the engine that keeps your metabolism high when you’re not training.
You feel flat, cranky, and fragile - not “athletic,” just smaller.
Short term? You look a little leaner.
Long term? You’re weaker, your hormones are angry, and your body rebounds the second you loosen up.
So you got “lean,” but you actually moved yourself farther from performance and longevity.
That’s the trap.
You go hard.
You lift, sprint, spar, compete, stack stimulants, push, & charge.
That will 100% make you feel alive… until it doesn’t.
Because performance has a recovery cost.
High output without matching recovery can fry your nervous system.
Chronically elevated cortisol can mess with testosterone, thyroid, hunger signals, even mood.
Mitochondria (your cell-level power plants) get overworked without enough repair time — so eventually output drops and nagging injuries don’t heal.
You’re performing like a savage. Maybe a savage in pain, but it feels good in a way.
But you’re also aging fast, sleeping poorly, and you don’t actually feel good in your own skin.
Now longevity and aesthetics fall off.
You dial stress down.
You prioritize sleep. Walk. Breathe. Low-intensity cardio. Bloodwork. Anti-inflammatory foods.
Great. You feel calmer. Joints feel better.
But if all you ever do is “manage stress,” you risk losing the edge.
No intensity = no reason for your body to hold muscle.
Losing muscle = slower metabolism.
Slower metabolism = softer look + less athletic pop.
You’re preserving yourself…
but you’re not expressing yourself.
Longevity without performance and aesthetics just turns into “I’m fine” energy. Most high performers can’t live there for long without going a little crazy.
You weren't meant to live in bubble wrap.
Hormonal, metabolic, and cellular health... and across all three pillars at once.
Not just “look good.”
Not just “live long.”
Not just “go hard.”
All three, in balance, on purpose.
That means:
Training with enough intent to build/keep muscle and power…
Recovering hard enough (sleep, nutrition, stress control) to actually adapt…
Eating in a way that supports hormones, gut, and energy instead of just chasing scale weight.
But here’s the part almost nobody talks about:
Your body is giving you signals. If you don't know how to read them, you're flying blind.
If you want performance, aesthetics, & longevity working together, not fighting each other, you need to track the right things. Not just “what do I weigh,” but “is my system moving in the right direction?”
The checklist looks more like this:
Lean muscle mass going up (or holding steady):
Muscle isn’t “optional bulk.” It’s longevity tissue. It keeps metabolism high, protects joints, stabilizes posture, and lets you produce force when you need to. More muscle = better performance, better shape, better aging.
Body fat percentage trending down (slowly, steadily):
Not crash-cutting 10 pounds in a week. That wrecks hormones. We’re talking fat loss that doesn’t cost you strength, sleep, or sanity. That’s aesthetics supporting health, not fighting it.
Bone density up:
As you age, bone density becomes performance insurance. Strong bones = fewer breaks, fewer “freak injuries,” longer career in your sport and your life. You don’t get that from starving and jogging. You get that from resistance training done right.
Resting heart rate down, HRV up:
Resting HR dropping over time = your heart and nervous system are under less constant stress.
Higher HRV (heart rate variability) = you’re resilient, adaptable, and not living in fight-or-flight.
Translation: you’re not just working hard — you’re recovering like someone who actually plans to be here in 20 years.
VO₂ max up:
VO₂ max is basically: how well can your body use oxygen to create energy?
It’s directly tied to healthspan and longevity, and it also shows up as “I don’t gas out when it matters.” That’s cardio fitness that supports performance without trashing recovery.
Physical benchmarks holding or improving:
Can you still move, cut, kick, press, carry, rotate, balance, and stabilize like you want?
Are you moving with control at end range - not just lifting heavy, but owning your positions?
That’s aesthetics (how you look), performance (what you can do), and longevity (how long you can keep doing it) all in one scorecard.
Those are the markers we’re after. That’s your real progress report.
And it might seem like these are fantasy numbers you can't get access to. But I'm here to tell you it's quite easy & direct.
Because you can absolutely drop scale weight and get worse in every other category. People do it all the time. And then they call it “success” because the number went down. But they don't show before-after-after pic. I'm talking years upon years
Meanwhile:
Hormones are trashed
Sleep’s shot
Mood’s edgy
Joints hurt
Power fell off
Bounce-back is gone
That’s not winning. That’s burning the future to feel better this week.
Here’s what winning actually looks like:
You’re stronger, not just lighter.
You recover faster, not just “survive” workouts.
You look better not because you starved - but because you rebuilt.
You can still show up where it matters: mat, platform, boardroom, home.
Performance, Aesthetics, & Longevity Outcomes.
From Hormonal, Cellular, & Metabolic Inputs.
That’s why we test, assess, and track.
Not to obsess.
To aim.
Because when you aim at the right data - muscle up, body fat down, bones strong, heart calm, VO₂ high, nervous system stable...performance, aesthetics, AND longevity stop competing with each other.
They start stacking.
